SendMe Closes $6 Million Series B Funding Led By Spark Capital
Investment Funds Will Be Used To Accelerate SendMe's Content Acquisition Strategy And Mobile Sweepstakes Platform Development
SAN FRANCISCO, December 23, 2006 – SendMe, a leader in the emerging direct-to-consumer (D2C) mobile entertainment market, today announced it has received $6 million in Series B financing led by Spark Capital, with participation from existing investors True Ventures and Amicus Ventures. Additionally, the company announced that Bijan Sabet, Spark Capital general partner, will join SendMe’s board of directors. This new round of funding will accelerate SendMe’s goal of bringing the broadest and best mobile content and experiences straight to consumers’ pockets.
“The world of direct-to-consumer mobile entertainment is on the verge of exploding, and SendMe is poised to take that world by storm,” said Bijan Sabet, general partner, Spark Capital. “They’re introducing a whole new approach to the market that combines innovation with amusement to deliver the kind of fresh and exciting services that consumers are demanding. Combined with a top-notch management team that has just the right blend of online and mobile experience, SendMe has all the right ingredients to lead this growing market.”
Launched in October of 2006, SendMe is giving consumers the broadest and most engaging portfolio of D2C mobile entertainment subscription services currently available in the US. Leveraging its best-of-breed proprietary technology platform, which enables SendMe to rapidly launch new services, the company has introduced an initial portfolio of services that includes fun content such as ringtones, graphics, trivia, interactive games and daily bursts of real-time text alerts bundled into a variety of subscription-based offerings.
“The services we’ve introduced to date are just the beginning of where we plan to go,” said Russell Klein, co-founder and CEO of SendMe. “We’re thrilled with the amount of enthusiasm for this round, and of course, with the outcome. With the backing of Spark -- as well as our existing investors -- we will work aggressively to bring consumers the best mobile experiences in the market.”
